My final divorce decree was in 1988 and I was supposed to receive $270 for child support. I received full custody of my daughter but he had visitation. My daughter is 17 now. I never received any child support—the only checks I received were from the IRS, if the IRS owed him money.

I was a single parent and I am active duty military. If it hadn't have been for the military which ensured me three meals a day and a roof over my head, I probably would have been on some kind of state or federal aid. It was very hard. If I had gotten the $270 a month my daughter wouldn't have had to want for anything. Maybe I could have sent her to a better school. Maybe I could have been able to provide for her a little bit better, but I did my best.

I was getting frustrated because she was turned 16 and I thought she's almost 18, you know, she's starting to drive and she's talking about going to college. She's a good kid. I couldn't have asked for a better daughter. I mean she never wants for anything. I just wanted her to get what was owed to her and for her to have everything that I could possibly give her.

I was at my wit's end. I called the state that her father lives in and I would give them his address and his phone number. They said they couldn't help.

It's not really about the money as much as the fact that an enforcement agency can do their job and get my daughter what she's owed.

I guess it takes some of the frustration away. Honestly Supportkids has been wonderful. You're talking to a woman who hasn't gotten child support since 1988 and it's the year 2000.
