After the divorce agreement, my ex-husband paid for the first year and a half. But then cold turkey—he quit paying and didn't start paying again until Supportkids got involved. I got everything back in arrearages. My son, 13, even got a card from his dad for the first time in 11 1/2 years.

By the time I came to Supportkids, I had already tried the courts for the past 11 1/2 years and got nowhere. I was going through the courts and they couldn't do anything because he was out of state.

I went about once a year to re-file this grievance. I had to hire a substitute to come in for my business, and then I had to drive to the state office. Then I had to walk a mile and spend a half an hour sitting in the hallway to finally get help that took me back to step A. It never went past step A which was me going there and doing the paperwork. After 10 years of it, it was very frustrating.

Financially, I always managed without the support. I'm one of those people that know how to budget money like you wouldn't believe and as a result we never went hungry. My son always got what he needed. He was able to play baseball or go on school trips or go to the doctor or the dentist. Whatever he needed his needs were always met.

But my ex-husband needed to pay his child support, regardless of whether I was making ends meet or not. It was his obligation.

I heard about Supportkids from a girlfriend of mine. She gave me the phone number and I called. I figured that anything was worth a try - even if it meant paying a fee. The court was doing absolutely nothing over a ten-year span, so in the end I still came out ahead because it would have been a big fat zero. The communication was really cool. I could just listen to the recording of the progress on my case and it could go back as far as I wanted to know.

One day my enforcement specialist called and said "Guess what, I've got news." She said, "You better sit down," and told me we got a settlement. I was just really ecstatic. I actually put the money in stocks and bonds.

Supportkids made him feel comfortable enough to correspond with his son when he was forced to pay up all of his arrearages and got up to date on all expenses.
