Child Support Collector
SUMMARY: Responsible for negotiating, collecting and documentation of child support owed to custodial parents.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Reviews court orders, contract information, and arrears calculations to determine collectable arrears.
- Reviews credit reports, employment information, and contact information to determine collection strategy.
- Initiates collections activity by telephone/mail.
- Operates with considerable latitude for un-reviewed action or decision. Recommends changes in procedures.
- Coordinates with other departments to gather or verify missing information. (i.e. employment verification, asset ownership, registry information, timely filing of court documents).
- Responsible for collections work, contacting, persuading, negotiating and following up with Non-Custodial Parent or other payor. Accurately documents all actions and conversations in CUBS.
- Initiates appropriate involuntary/voluntary collection remedies.
- Prepares case file for referral to Legal Division for preparation of legal documents.
- With Team Leader, refers cases to Legal Division for Network Attorney contingency fee collection or to obtain Income Deduction Order.
- Manages case load.
- Discovery of Non-Custodial Parent’s assets for lien attachments.
- Negotiates settlement or payment with Non-Custodial Parent’s attorney.
- Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:High school degree required, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
1-3 years of related experience in collection or legal/criminal remedies. High level of communication and negotiation skills required. Background in criminal/legal remedies is preferred.
Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, MS Office) and good math skills are also required.
